I. 100 Miles or Bust!

Father and Son in Search of the Essence of Leadership

A one hour presentation, half day seminar or full day workshop delivered together by co-authors of The 100 Mile Walk: A Father and Son on a Quest to Find the Essence of Leadership

Sander A. Flaum and Jonathon A. Flaum

A. The one hour presentation

This odd pairing of traditional corporate CEO father and Zen student entrepreneur son walked 100 miles on leadership and lived to tell the tale. In their one hour entertaining and content rich presentation they share anecdotes from their walk as well as the core leadership practices they uncovered and explored through their study and interviews of the great leaders from business, nonprofit, and academia that participated in the Fordham Leadership Forum at the Fordham Graduate School of Business in New York City.

B. The half-day workshop

Following the initial one hour presentation from Sander and Jonathon, the two facilitate a half day with corporate, university, association or nonprofit board of directors, specific business units, or departments within organizations of 25 people or less. The lessons from the book are distilled into participatory scenarios where the group is put on a journey to discover its own essence and the brand of leadership that emerges from the strengths of the team.

C. The full-day workshop

At the half day mark the leadership practices and the values that underlie them are exposed. The second half of the day focuses on taking a specific issue that the group is currently grappling with and applying the leadership lessons of 100 Miles to help the group see what distance it needs to walk together to achieve success. Sander and Jonathon lead the group in taking those first steps of commitment in bridging that distance from where they are to where they want to go. The two then facilitate a plan for the group to “walk” together all the way to their goal.
